Welcome/Schedule

Desert Ops – October 2022

Welcome to Desert Ops – our biennial model railroad operations weekend in Phoenix.

We are happy to announce that we will be hosting Desert Ops 2022 in Phoenix this coming October. The dates are Friday thru Sunday, October 21-23.

Sessions are scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
– Friday – evening session starting at 5:30pm
– Saturday – day session starting at 10:00am
– Saturday – banquet in the evening starting at 6:00pm
– Sunday – day session starting at 9:30am

There are always some outlaw sessions available in addition to the scheduled sessions.

We’ll have many of our existing railroads, all of which have been updated/improved/grown since Desert Ops 2018 and some new ones as well. Ops in Phoenix is always a good time!

Registration will open at noon on July 31, 2022.

We hope and expect to host the event as scheduled. We will send out reminder emails prior to the opening of registration so you can be assured you’ll have an opportunity to register.

We are in the process of updating the Desert Ops website and will advise you once that is complete. Please don’t expect any update before the end of May regarding the website. Hotel information will be published once it is available.

Desert Ops is an open event, no invitation is required to participate. If you know folks who would be interested participants for Desert Ops 2022, please feel free to forward this information and have them reply with a request to Rick Watson to be added to the notification list.

For the 2018 event, registration was full within a few hours of opening. We will leave registration open longer this time around and once full, folks will be put on the extra board. We hope to have more spots for attendees this year.

There is no fee for Desert Ops attendance; we consider you as a welcome guest.

Prototype railroad operating sessions in the Phoenix area started in 1959 and have been held continuously ever since.

Operations invitational weekends were kick started in 1986 in Salt Lake City and went national soon after. The idea is to host folks who do not live nearby and thus not normally have access to the host group of layouts. We will give preference to guests who travel the furthest since local folks can attend at other times.

Layout owners here are pleased to host this event to share the fun and camaraderie

We look forward to your joining us in October! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
